Planning a 4 Night Nile Cruise

By Delta Tours EgyptLast updated 6 min read

A 4 night Nile cruise gives you five days and four nights on the river between Luxor and Aswan, usually boarding in Luxor and sailing south. With us the fare starts at $1,012 per person in a double cabin (September to April) and covers full board, private sightseeing with an English-speaking guide and entrance fees to the temples in the program.

This page lists every ship we offer on the 4-night length with its fare, class and sailing days, outlines the five days, and sets out plainly what the extra night adds compared with a 3 night Nile cruise.

4 Night Nile Cruise Fares by Ship

All fares are per person in a double cabin for 4 nights / 5 days. The season column repeats each ship’s own fare label, including the start port where the label names one. The class is the one given on the ship’s page; our deluxe Nile cruise, ultra deluxe Nile cruise and luxury Nile cruise pages explain the differences.

Five Days From Luxor to Aswan

This is how a 4 night Nile cruise from Luxor typically runs. Ships adjust the order around their mooring times, so we send you the confirmed program with your booking.

  1. Day 1, Luxor East Bank. Transfer to the ship and lunch on board, then an afternoon with your guide at Karnak and Luxor Temple. You sleep on the ship in Luxor.
  2. Day 2, Luxor West Bank. The royal tombs and temples across the river in the morning, back on board for lunch, then the ship sets off south.
  3. Day 3, Edfu. A visit to the Temple of Horus, followed by a long, quiet afternoon of sailing, the part of the trip that most separates the 4-night cruise from the 3-night one.
  4. Day 4, Kom Ombo and Aswan. The double temple at Kom Ombo, then on to Aswan, where the guided visits include Philae Temple on its island.
  5. Day 5, Aswan. Breakfast and checkout, then your transfer onward: a flight, the train north, a hotel in Aswan or an excursion to Abu Simbel.

Our Luxor and Aswan Nile cruise guide covers each temple and the river route in more detail.

Why the Longer Sailing Usually Starts in Luxor

Leaving Luxor means traveling south, against the flow of a river that runs north to the Mediterranean. Fare tables that name a start port all put the 4 nights in Luxor and the 3 nights in Aswan, and our other ship pages describe the same pattern, with the direction checked for each date.

Starting in Luxor has practical benefits. You see Karnak and the West Bank at the start, while you are fresh, and you finish in Aswan, which has an international airport and is the southern end of the railway from Cairo. Aswan is also the base for Abu Simbel, so you can add it straight after the cruise, by road or by air.

Is the Fourth Night Worth Paying For?

Be clear about what you are buying. Both lengths cover Luxor’s two banks, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae, so the fourth night does not add a major temple. It adds time: an extra afternoon on the water, a more relaxed pace in Luxor and more hours on deck, which many travelers find is the point of a river cruise.

  • The price gap. On the $1,012 ships the extra night costs $152 per person sharing. On Acamar it is $210, on Nebu, Jaz Viceroy and both Goddess ships $180, and at the top end it reaches $750 on Oberoi Zahra and $800 on Historia.
  • Value per night. Because the step is often smaller than a full night’s share of the 3-night fare, the longer cruise usually costs less per night. On Nile Capital it is about $253 a night against $287.
  • When 3 nights is smarter. On a tight week, or if you travel alone and want to limit the single supplement, the 3 night Nile cruise from Aswan is the better fit.

Who Should Choose 4 Nights

  • First-time visitors who want to see Karnak, the West Bank, Edfu and Aswan without rushing between them.
  • Couples and honeymooners who plan to enjoy the ship itself, from the sun deck to the cabin balcony on ships that have one.
  • Travelers flying into Luxor, who can board on arrival and finish in Aswan.
  • Anyone planning Abu Simbel after the cruise, since the sailing ends in Aswan.
  • Families and friends on ships with triple cabins, where a third person sharing pays less.

For a slower river journey still, the dahabiya cruises we sell take five nights from Esna to Aswan under sail, and the Oberoi Philae adds a 6-night option from Luxor.

Fitting the Cruise Into Your Week

Monday and Friday are the most common sailing days. Royal La Terrasse, Al Hambra, Amwaj Living Stone, Le Fayan, Jaz Senator, Miriam, Medea, Jaz Crown Jubilee and Movenpick Sun Ray use Monday and Thursday, while Renaissance, Blue Shadow, Nebu, Jaz Viceroy, Alexander the Great and Esplanade use Wednesday and Saturday. Oberoi Zahra and Farah sail on selected dates. Share your arrival date and we will choose the ship and sailing that wastes the fewest hotel nights.

Most travelers spend a few days in Cairo first; our pyramids and Nile cruise tours package both. For weather by month on the river, see our guide to the best time for a Nile cruise.

How much does a 4 night Nile cruise cost?

Our 4-night fares start at $1,012 per person in a double cabin from September to April on ships such as Nile Capital and Moon Dance, and run up to $3,800 on Historia. Triple fares are lower per person and single fares higher.

Is a 5 day Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan the same as a 4 night cruise?

Yes. Cruise lengths are sold as nights and days together, so a 5 day Luxor to Aswan sailing is the 4 night cruise: you board on day one and leave the ship on day five.

Where does a 4 night Nile cruise start?

On most ships in Luxor, ending in Aswan. The start port for your date is confirmed when you book.

Is a 4 night Nile cruise better than 3 nights?

It sees the same main sites but at a slower pace, with more time on the river and fewer very early mornings. For a short trip or a solo traveler watching the single supplement, 3 nights can make more sense.

Which ships have balconies on a 4 night cruise?

Sonesta Moon Goddess has a balcony on every cabin, Sonesta Star Goddess has one on every suite, Sun Goddess suites open onto private terraces, and Renaissance cabins have either a balcony or large windows.

What does a single cabin cost for 4 nights?

On Nile Capital and the ships priced the same, a single cabin is $1,552 for 4 nights from September to April. Single fares for every ship are on its own page.

Can I take a 4 night Nile cruise in summer?

Yes. Most ships publish fares for the main season and quote summer sailings on request, so tell us your month and we will price it.

Can I see Abu Simbel after a 4 night cruise?

Yes. The cruise ends in Aswan, the usual starting point for Abu Simbel, so you can add a day trip by road or by air before heading home.
