Choosing Your Culture and Beach Holiday

By Delta Tours EgyptLast updated 5 min read

An Egypt tour and Red Sea holiday puts the pyramids, the temples of Luxor and often a Nile cruise at the start of your trip, then gives you two to four nights at a beach resort before you fly home. Our tours that end on the coast finish in Hurghada, Sahl Hasheesh or Sharm El Sheikh, with private guided sightseeing on the history days and free time by the sea at the end.

Below are all of our culture and beach tours with their resorts, beach nights and prices, followed by advice on choosing between Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh and on how many beach nights you need.

Luxury, Classic or Budget: How the Beach Tours Differ

Luxury: flights and five-star resorts

The Royal Egypt Tour is the longest and most complete, with Abu Simbel by air, a night at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract and four nights at the Four Seasons in Sharm El Sheikh. Hatshepsut Dive and Nile Dream share the same first week, four nights at Marriott Mena House and a three-night cruise on the M.S May Flower, then split: Hatshepsut Dive flies from Luxor to Sharm El Sheikh, while Nile Dream drives across the Eastern Desert to Sahl Hasheesh. TITI Dive skips the cruise, staying at the Sofitel Winter Palace in Luxor before three nights at The Oberoi.

Classic and budget: train, cruise and road

King Tut Dive, Nile Legend and HAPI take the overnight sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan, sail to Luxor and continue to the coast. King Tut Dive flies from Luxor to Sharm El Sheikh, while Nile Legend and HAPI travel by air-conditioned bus to Hurghada, a drive of about four hours. Sun and Sea and ISIS Dive are the shortest and lowest-priced, with Luxor by hotel instead of a cruise and two nights in Hurghada. On the train and bus tours, ask us to quote flights if you prefer shorter travel days.

Family finish

Our 14-day family adventure ends with an arrival afternoon and a full free day in Sharm El Sheikh. For family pacing and advice, see our Egypt family tours.

Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh?

Both sit on the Red Sea and both are known for snorkeling and diving, but they are different places and they change how your tour runs.

Hurghada and Sahl Hasheesh Sharm El Sheikh
Location Mainland Red Sea coast, Red Sea Governorate Southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, South Sinai Governorate
Getting there on our tours By road from Luxor, about four hours By flight from Luxor
Marine highlights Giftun Islands, plus reefs in Sahl Hasheesh bay Ras Mohammed National Park at the tip of the Sinai
Feel Large resort city with a yacht marina and water sports; Sahl Hasheesh is a separate resort bay to the south Resort town whose Naama Bay area holds many of its hotels
Our resorts Hilton Plaza Resort, The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh Four Seasons Resort, Sultana Gardens

Choose Hurghada or Sahl Hasheesh if you want the beach to follow straight on from Luxor by road, without another flight, or if you like water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. Sahl Hasheesh is a quieter bay with its own reefs, a short drive south of Hurghada. Choose Sharm El Sheikh if reefs are the priority. Ras Mohammed National Park, at the tip of the peninsula, is known for its coral walls and marine life. On our tours Sharm El Sheikh is reached by air, which keeps the transfer short.

Our Red Sea travel guide covers the resorts, beaches and day trips in more detail.

How Many Beach Nights Do You Need?

  • Two nights give you one full day by the sea, enough to recover from early starts and long temple days before the flight home.
  • Three nights give you two free days, so you can fit in a boat trip to the islands or reefs and still have a lazy day.
  • Four nights, as on the Royal Egypt Tour, turn the trip into two holidays: one of history and one of rest.

We can add nights to any of these tours. Diving is not included on Hatshepsut Dive or King Tut Dive despite their names; it can be arranged as an extra in Sharm El Sheikh.

Why Put the Beach at the End?

Every tour on this page saves the coast for last, and for good reason. The sightseeing days in Cairo and Luxor start early and involve a lot of walking, often in the heat. Doing them first, while you are fresh, means the beach becomes recovery time rather than a pause between monuments. It also means the last thing you remember is a calm sea rather than a pre-dawn alarm.

If you want the cruise and the pyramids without the beach, compare our Pyramids and Nile cruise tours. If you would rather sleep in hotels than on a ship, see our Egypt tours without a Nile cruise.

Chat on WhatsApp+20 109 002 1560

Can I combine an Egypt tour with a Red Sea beach holiday?

Yes. Ten of our tours end on the Red Sea in Hurghada, Sahl Hasheesh or Sharm El Sheikh, with two to four nights at a beach resort after the sightseeing.

Which is better after a Nile cruise, Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh?

Hurghada is reached from Luxor by road in about four hours, so there is no extra flight. Sharm El Sheikh, reached by air on our tours, suits travelers who put reefs first, with Ras Mohammed National Park nearby.

How much does a Cairo, Nile cruise and beach tour cost?

Our ten-day Cairo, Nile cruise and Hurghada tours start at $1,410 per person in a double room from October to April, and our luxury versions with all-inclusive resorts cost $3,290 on the same basis.

Is diving included on Hatshepsut Dive and King Tut Dive?

No. Despite their names, diving is not part of either package, but it can be arranged in Sharm El Sheikh at extra cost.

Which beach tours fly instead of using the train or bus?

Hatshepsut Dive, Nile Dream and TITI Dive use domestic flights, and King Tut Dive flies from Luxor to Sharm El Sheikh. The budget tours use the sleeper train and buses, which we can upgrade to flights on request.

Can I stay longer at the beach?

Yes. We can add nights at the resort on any of these tours or change the resort, and quote the difference before you book.

Can I do the Red Sea without a Nile cruise?

Yes. TITI Dive, Sun and Sea and ISIS Dive cover Cairo and Luxor with hotel stays and then go straight to the coast.
