An Egypt tour without a Nile cruise replaces the ship with hotel stays in Luxor and, on longer routes, Aswan, and moves you between cities by domestic flight, private car or sleeper train. You still see the pyramids, the Valley of the Kings and Karnak with a private English-speaking guide, but each night ends in a full hotel room and each day runs to your own timetable rather than a sailing schedule.
This page lists our land-based tours, explains what you gain and give up compared with a cruise, and helps you choose between flights and trains.

Treasures of the Pharaohs, Jewels of Egypt and Egypt Unveiled are priced by group size, so the rate per person falls as your party grows; the published tables give no seasonal split. The other prices are per person in a double room from October to April, and each tour page shows triple, single and summer rates.
Three tours keep the full southern route without a ship. Timeless Egypt is the slowest: four days in Cairo, three nights in Luxor at a resort hotel, then a private drive along the river with a stop at Kom Ombo and two nights in Aswan. Treasures of the Pharaohs fits the same arc into a week, driving from Luxor to Aswan with stops at Edfu and Kom Ombo and adding a full day at Abu Simbel. Jewels of Egypt flies straight from Cairo to Aswan, gives a day each to Aswan and Abu Simbel, then finishes in Luxor.
If Aswan can wait for another visit, Egypt Unveiled and Tut Treasure fly you to Luxor for both banks of the river, while King Treasure and Anubis make the same trip by overnight sleeper train at a lower price. Tut Treasure also adds the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization to the Grand Egyptian Museum.
TITI Dive spends four days on Cairo and Luxor, then three nights at The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh on the Red Sea. ISIS Dive and Sun and Sea follow the same idea by train and road at a budget price; all three are compared on our Egypt and Red Sea tours page.
| Land tour with hotels | Nile cruise | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you sleep | Full hotel rooms, resort pools and restaurants | A cabin on a shared ship |
| Packing | A check-in at each city | Unpack once for three or four nights |
| Daily timing | Set by you and your guide | Tied to the ship’s sailing schedule |
| Edfu and Kom Ombo | Only on routes that drive between Luxor and Aswan | Visited from the boat on the way |
| Meals | Breakfast, plus the meals listed on each tour | Full board on cruise nights |
| Time on the river | Little, unless you add a felucca sail | Hours on deck watching the banks |
A land tour suits travelers who sleep badly on boats, want more space, prefer to choose when to eat and rest, or have already cruised the Nile once. It also suits anyone who wants more time in Luxor, since Timeless Egypt gives the city three hotel nights. The cruise wins on convenience: your room travels with you, meals are included, and the river itself becomes part of the trip.
If the river appeals after all, compare our Nile river cruises, or read our Luxor to Aswan cruise guide to see what a sailing day involves.
Every land tour includes the journey between Cairo and the south, but how you travel depends on the tour:
On the train-based tours, ask us to quote flights instead if you prefer shorter travel days.
The core sites are the same on land and on water: the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, Karnak and Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut’s temple on the West Bank. Treasures of the Pharaohs and Jewels of Egypt add Philae and Abu Simbel in the far south. What a Cairo and Luxor tour leaves out is the stretch of river between Luxor and Aswan, including the temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu. If those matter to you, choose a route that drives south or add a cruise.
Our land tours span two budgets. The flight-based routes use five-star hotels such as Marriott Mena House and the Sofitel Winter Palace and sit within our luxury Egypt tours. King Treasure and Anubis keep private guiding and entrance fees but save on travel and hotels, in line with our budget Egypt tours. Families weighing land against river can also see our Egypt family tours.
Delta Tours Egypt is a Cairo family business that has planned journeys around the country since 1974. On a land tour your guide and car are private from the first transfer to the last, and our team answers on WhatsApp while you travel.
If you would like a different hotel in Luxor, a longer stay in Aswan or a felucca sail on a free afternoon, send us the outline and we will price it as a tailor-made Egypt tour.

Our flight-based land tours use domestic flights, and Timeless Egypt and Treasures of the Pharaohs add a private drive from Luxor to Aswan. King Treasure and Anubis use the overnight first-class sleeper train instead.
Not necessarily. Our land tours run from $860 per person in a double room from October to April on Anubis to a published starting price of $4,800 on the 11-day Timeless Egypt, and cost depends mostly on hotels and flights.
On Cairo and Luxor tours, yes. Timeless Egypt stops at Kom Ombo and Treasures of the Pharaohs stops at both Edfu and Kom Ombo on the drive from Luxor to Aswan.
Travelers who prefer a full hotel room, want control over meal and rest times, sleep poorly on boats or have already cruised the Nile tend to prefer a land-based trip.
