Cruising the Nile on a Budget

By Delta Tours EgyptLast updated 3 min read

A budget Nile cruise does not have to mean a basic boat. The most affordable way to cruise between Luxor and Aswan with us is on a five-star deluxe ship, from $790 per person in a triple cabin or $860 in a double for three nights, with full board, private sightseeing, an English-speaking guide and transfers included. If you also want Cairo and the Pyramids, our budget Cairo and Nile cruise packages travel south by sleeper train to keep the price down.

This page shows the lowest-priced ways to cruise the Nile with us, what you give up compared with more expensive ships, and how to bring the cost down further.

The Cheapest Ways to Cruise the Nile With Us

Option What it includes From, per person
Deluxe cruise, 3 nights Aswan to Luxor, full board, private sightseeing $790 triple, $860 double
Deluxe cruise, 4 nights Luxor to Aswan, full board, private sightseeing $934 triple, $1,012 double
Ptah, 9 days Cairo, sleeper train, 4-night cruise on the La Sara $1,250 double
Cheops, 10 days As Ptah, plus Abu Simbel $1,260 double
Cleopatra, 10 days Cairo, Alexandria, sleeper train, 3-night cruise $1,360 double
HAPI, 10 days Cairo, 3-night cruise, two nights in Hurghada $1,410 double

Fares are our published rates from September or October to April. Package prices from May to September are lower again: Ptah, for example, costs $1,200 in a double room in summer.

What You Get on a Lower-Priced Cruise

The route, the temples and the sightseeing are the same on every Nile cruise: Karnak and Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae. On our budget options you still get:

  • A five-star cabin with a private bathroom and air conditioning
  • Full board on the ship: breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Private sightseeing with an English-speaking guide, rather than a large ship group
  • Entrance fees to the sites in the itinerary on our packages
  • Transfers in a private air-conditioned vehicle

What you give up

  • Suites and balconies. Most budget-priced cabins have a large window rather than a balcony.
  • Smaller guest numbers. The lower-priced ships carry more passengers than the luxury boats.
  • Spa and fine dining. These belong to the luxury ships.
  • Flights. Budget packages use the overnight sleeper train between Cairo and the Nile Valley.

For a step up without luxury prices, see our ultra deluxe cruises, from $990 per person for three nights.

How to Pay Less for a Nile Cruise

  • Share a triple cabin. On most deluxe ships three travelers sharing pay $790 each for three nights instead of $860.
  • Choose four nights. The fourth night adds only about $150 per person, so the cost per night falls.
  • Travel in summer. Package prices from May to September are lower, and early starts keep the heat manageable.
  • Take the sleeper train. It replaces both a hotel night and a domestic flight between Cairo and Luxor or Aswan.
  • Avoid the peak weeks. Christmas, New Year and Easter are the busiest and most expensive times to sail.

Our guide to the best time for a Nile cruise explains the seasons, and the Luxor to Aswan cruise guide shows each day of the route.

Budget Cruise or Budget Land Tour?

If a cruise is not essential, a land-based trip can cost even less. Anubis covers Cairo and Luxor in six days by sleeper train from $860 per person in a double room. A cruise, though, is the easiest way to see Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan without extra transfers, and meals on board are included. Compare all our budget Egypt tours to decide.

What is the cheapest Nile cruise you offer?

Our lowest fares are on five-star deluxe ships: $790 per person in a triple cabin or $860 in a double for a three-night cruise from Aswan to Luxor, including full board, private sightseeing with a guide and transfers.

Are budget Nile cruises five-star?

Yes. Our lowest-priced cruises use five-star deluxe ships, and the budget Cairo and Nile cruise packages use the five-star La Sara. What you give up compared with luxury ships is space, suites and smaller guest numbers, not the sightseeing.

How much is a cheap Cairo and Nile cruise package?

Our nine-day Ptah package, with Cairo, the sleeper train and a four-night cruise, costs from $1,250 per person in a double room from October to April, and from $1,200 from May to September.

Is sightseeing included on a budget Nile cruise?

Yes. Private sightseeing in Luxor and Aswan with an English-speaking guide is included on our cruises and packages, as listed in each itinerary.

Is a three-night or four-night cruise better value?

The four-night cruise costs about $150 more per person but works out cheaper per night, and it adds a slower pace and the passage through the Esna lock.

When are Nile cruises cheapest?

From May to September our package prices are lower. Christmas, New Year and Easter are the most expensive and busiest weeks.

Can I save money by sharing a cabin?

Yes. On most of our deluxe ships, three travelers sharing a triple cabin pay $790 each for three nights, against $860 each in a double cabin.

How do budget packages travel from Cairo to the Nile?

By the overnight first-class sleeper train, with dinner and breakfast on board. It saves a hotel night and the cost of a domestic flight.

What is not included in a budget Nile cruise?

International flights, your Egypt visa, drinks, optional tours such as Abu Simbel or a balloon flight, and tips for the crew and guide.

Can I upgrade a budget package to a better ship?

Yes. We can swap the cruise for an ultra deluxe or luxury ship, or replace the train with flights, and quote the difference.
