A classic Egypt tour follows the route travelers have taken for well over a century: the Pyramids and the treasures of Cairo, the temples and royal tombs of Luxor, and the Nile south to Aswan. Our classic Egypt tour packages travel this route in comfort, with the Hilton Pyramids hotel in Giza, the five-star Le Fayan Nile cruise, the first-class sleeper train, and private sightseeing with an English-speaking guide at every site.
This page compares our classic packages, explains what sits at the heart of a classical Egypt itinerary, and shows how the classic tours differ from our budget and luxury ranges.
| Tour | Days | What it covers | Double room |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taste of Egypt | 4 | Cairo and Giza | $580 |
| King Treasure | 6 | Cairo and Luxor, by sleeper train | $933 |
| Queen Nefertari | 8 | Cairo and a 3-night Nile cruise | $1,240 |

Whatever the length, a classical tour of Egypt is built around three places:
The ten-day classic tours then add one more highlight: Abu Simbel, Alexandria, or a few days on the Red Sea.
King Tut is our classic tour in its fullest form:
If you have a day less, Queen Nefertari follows the same pattern with a three-night cruise.
| Budget | Classic | Luxury | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cairo hotel | Mamlouk Pyramids | Hilton Pyramids | Marriott Mena House |
| Nile cruise | La Sara | Le Fayan | MayFlower |
| Travel south | Sleeper train | Sleeper train | Domestic flights |
| 9-day or similar tour from | $1,250 | $1,460 | $2,850 (8 days) |
The classic range is the middle ground: more comfort than our budget Egypt tours for about $200 more per person, at roughly half the price of our luxury Egypt tours. The private sightseeing and entrance fees are included at every level.

October to April is the classic season, with warm days and cool evenings. Prices from May to September are slightly lower, and sightseeing starts early to avoid the heat. Plan well ahead for Christmas, New Year and Easter. Our guide to the best season to visit Egypt covers each month.

The Hilton Pyramids in Cairo and the five-star Le Fayan Nile cruise. Land-based tours use the Sonesta St. George or the Steigenberger Nile Palace in Luxor, and the beach tours the Hilton Plaza Resort in Hurghada or the Sultana Gardens in Sharm El Sheikh.
By the overnight first-class sleeper train, with dinner and breakfast served on board. If you prefer to fly, we can quote the difference.
Classic tours use the Hilton Pyramids and the Le Fayan instead of the Mamlouk Pyramids and the La Sara. The route, private sightseeing and sleeper train are the same, and a nine-day classic tour costs about $200 more per person.
Luxury tours use hotels such as the Marriott Mena House, ships such as the MayFlower, and domestic flights instead of the sleeper train. They cost roughly twice as much as the classic range.
Romantic Nile, a ten-day tour combining Cairo, a four-night Nile cruise and the temples of Abu Simbel, from $1,626 per person in a double room.
