Tour Overview

The Movenpick MS Sun Ray Nile cruise is one of the newest ships on the Luxor to Aswan run, offered as a 3-night or 4-night full-board sailing with departures on Mondays and Thursdays. The 3-night fare starts at $976 per person in a triple cabin between September and April, with guiding and entrance fees included.

Why choose a new ship

Many Nile vessels date back decades and have been refreshed in stages. The Sun Ray is one of the latest additions, so its cabins and public areas were planned around current tastes from the start. That appeals to travelers who notice finishes and layout, and to anyone who simply prefers a ship that feels new. It sits in our ultra deluxe category, alongside its fleet mate the Movenpick Royal Lotus.

Fares for the short sailing

For the 3-night cruise from September to April, the per person fare is $976 in a triple cabin, $1,051 in a double and $1,999 for a single cabin. The 4-night sailing is shown in the price table on this page; please confirm it with us before booking, as we are reviewing that figure.

How the week fits together

With Monday and Thursday departures, the cruise slots easily around a Cairo stay at either end. Fly into Luxor or Aswan, join the ship, and let the river do the traveling. Between the two cities the classic route passes the temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu, so you see the main sights of Upper Egypt without long road transfers.

Inclusions at a glance

  • Meet and greet at the airport and private air-conditioned transfers
  • Full board on the ship
  • Private sightseeing in Luxor and Aswan with an English-speaking guide
  • Entrance fees to the itinerary sites, service charges and taxes

Not included: international flights, the visa, optional tours and tips.

Good to know

Published fares cover September to April, the cooler half of the year when sightseeing in Upper Egypt is most comfortable. Midday sun is strong even in winter, so the morning starts your guide plans are worth keeping to.

Ideas for extra days

Aswan is the jumping-off point for Abu Simbel, and the Philae Temple island is a short boat ride from town. For a longer trip that includes this ship, see the Sun Ray 10-day tour with Cairo and Abu Simbel, or ask for a tailor-made itinerary.
