Planning Egypt From Canada

By Delta Tours EgyptLast updated 6 min read

Egypt tours from Canada are easier to plan than many travelers expect, because EgyptAir flies nonstop between Toronto and Cairo in roughly ten and a half hours. That makes a one-week trip over March break realistic, and a two-week trip over Christmas comfortable. Our private packages cover Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and the Nile, with options that add Abu Simbel, Alexandria or the Red Sea, and every price on this page is in US dollars per person.

This guide starts with flights, entry rules, time zones and school-break timing for Canadians, then matches our tours to the length of trip you have.

Nonstop and One-Stop Flights From Canada

Toronto. EgyptAir runs nonstop service between Toronto Pearson and Cairo, scheduled at about 10 hours 25 minutes, several times a week.

Montreal. Current schedules show no nonstop flight from Montreal to Cairo, so travelers from Quebec connect, either through Toronto or through a European or Middle Eastern hub.

Vancouver, Calgary and elsewhere. Expect one stop, typically in Toronto for the EgyptAir nonstop, or in a European or Gulf hub on a partner airline. Compare total journey time, not only price, as a long connection can add most of a day.

Air Canada still sells itineraries to Cairo from several Canadian cities, but these involve a connection, so check the routing before you book.

Entry Visa for Canadian Citizens

According to the Government of Canada’s travel advice at travel.gc.ca, Canadian passport holders can get an electronic visa before travel or a 30-day tourist visa on arrival, and the passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date you leave Egypt. The stamp visa on arrival costs US$30 in cash, and since 1 August 2026 Cairo airport has also sold a digital visa on arrival for US$36, paid by card. If you prefer to land with the visa already approved, apply on the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, at least seven days before departure. Check travel.gc.ca again close to your trip, as fees and rules can change.

Time Difference: Eastern and Pacific

Egypt is on UTC+2 in winter and UTC+3 from the last Friday of April to the last Thursday of October. Canada and Egypt change their clocks on different dates, and British Columbia stopped changing its clocks in 2026, so the gap shifts more than you might expect:

Period Toronto, Montreal (Eastern) Vancouver (Pacific)
Christmas and January Egypt is 7 hours ahead Egypt is 9 hours ahead
Mid-March to late April, including March break Egypt is 6 hours ahead Egypt is 9 hours ahead
May to late October Egypt is 7 hours ahead Egypt is 10 hours ahead

British Columbia now stays on UTC-7 all year, while Eastern Canada moves its clocks forward on the second Sunday of March. A 9am museum visit in Cairo during March break is 3am in Toronto, so arrange calls home for your evening.

Planning Around March Break and Christmas

March break. In Ontario, the 2026 to 2027 school calendar sets March break from 15 to 19 March 2027. With the weekends on either side, that gives nine days. Fly out at the start of the break and, allowing for the time difference and the flights, you have about six full days in Egypt, enough for one of our six- to eight-day tours with domestic flights. Other provinces set their own spring break dates, so confirm yours with your school board.

Christmas. Ontario’s winter break runs from 21 December 2026 to 1 January 2027. Counting the weekends, a family can be away for about sixteen days, which fits a ten-day tour with Red Sea time or our fourteen-day Egypt family tours. Both breaks fall inside Egypt’s cooler season, which our main prices cover from October to April, and holiday dates book up first, so plan early.

Each tour page also shows triple, single and May to September rates.

Choosing by the time you have

  • Six to eight days. Flights rather than trains are what make a short trip work. Jewels of Egypt and Treasures of the Pharaohs are hotel-based and reach Abu Simbel; Hathor adds three nights on the river.
  • Nine days. King Tut and Ptah give the Nile four nights and use overnight sleeper trains, which saves money and a hotel night each way.
  • Ten days or more. Alexander the Great adds Alexandria and a free day, while HAPI and King Tut Dive end on the Red Sea. See our Egypt and Red Sea tours for more beach combinations.

Before You Pack: Currency and Plugs

Paying for the tour. Our tour prices are quoted in US dollars, so what you pay in Canadian dollars depends on the exchange rate on the day and on your card’s foreign transaction fee, if it has one.

Cash in Egypt. The local currency is the Egyptian pound. travel.gc.ca notes that you can bring in or take out no more than EGP 5,000, and that foreign currency above US$10,000 must be declared. Carry clean US notes if you plan to pay for the visa on arrival in cash, and keep small Egyptian notes for tips.

Plugs and voltage. Canada uses type A and B plugs at 120 volts and 60 Hz, while Egypt uses type C and F at 230 volts and 50 Hz. You will need a plug adapter, and before packing anything check its label: phone and laptop chargers marked 100 to 240 volts work fine, but single-voltage devices such as many hair dryers and straighteners need a converter or should stay at home.

Chat on WhatsApp+20 109 002 1560

Is there a direct flight from Canada to Egypt?

Yes, from Toronto. EgyptAir flies nonstop from Toronto Pearson to Cairo in about ten and a half hours. From Montreal, Vancouver and other cities you connect once, often in Toronto or a European hub.

Do Canadians need a visa for Egypt?

Yes. Canadians can get an e-visa before travel or a 30-day tourist visa on arrival, which costs US$30 in cash or US$36 by card at Cairo airport. Your passport must be valid for six months beyond your departure from Egypt.

What is the time difference between Toronto and Cairo?

Cairo is usually seven hours ahead of Toronto. From mid-March to late April, which includes March break, the gap is six hours because Canada changes its clocks earlier than Egypt.

Can I see Egypt during March break?

Yes, if you choose a short tour that uses domestic flights. Jewels of Egypt covers Cairo, Aswan, Abu Simbel and Luxor in six days, from $2,025 per person for two to four travelers.

Are your Egypt vacation packages priced in Canadian dollars?

No, they are priced in US dollars per person. The amount in Canadian dollars depends on the exchange rate and any foreign transaction fee on your card when you pay.

Will my hair dryer work in Egypt?

Only if its label says it handles 230 volts. Egypt runs at 230 volts with type C and F sockets, so dual-voltage chargers just need an adapter, but single-voltage 120-volt appliances need a converter.

Which tour suits a family over the Christmas break?

HAPI and King Tut Dive combine a Nile cruise with Red Sea beach days in ten days, from $1,410 and $1,720 per person in a double room from October to April. For two weeks, see our family tours.
