This Luxor overnight trip from Marsa Alam spreads the main sights of Luxor over 2 days and 1 night, with a night at the five-star Sonesta Hotel in between. It runs every day with a professional guide, and prices start from $219 per person.

How the days work

On day one we collect you from your hotel in Marsa Alam and drive to Luxor in an air-conditioned vehicle. The first stop is Karnak Temple, the largest temple complex of ancient Thebes, where generations of pharaohs added halls, courts and obelisks. After lunch at a restaurant, you visit Luxor Temple in the middle of the modern city, near the Nile. There is also a stop at a bazaar before you check in at the hotel for the night.

Day two starts with breakfast before you cross to the West Bank. You see the Colossi of Memnon, two giant statues of Amenhotep III, then the Valley of the Kings, the burial ground of New Kingdom pharaohs. The last visit is the Temple of Hatshepsut, built in terraces against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. After that, we drive you back to your hotel on the coast.

The road between the Red Sea coast and the Nile Valley is long. Doing everything in one day leaves less time at the sites. With a night in Luxor, you add Luxor Temple, break the drive in two and start the West Bank fresh. We pick you up from your hotel in Marsa Alam and drive you to Luxor in an air-conditioned vehicle. Your guide begins with Karnak Temple, where you walk through its courts and the Great Hypostyle Hall with its rows of huge columns. After lunch at a restaurant, you visit Luxor Temple in the center of the city, close to the Nile. You also have a stop at a bazaar. You then check in at the five-star Sonesta Hotel and spend the night in Luxor.

After breakfast at the hotel, you cross to the West Bank with your guide. The first stop is the Colossi of Memnon, two giant stone statues of a seated pharaoh. You then visit the Valley of the Kings, where the New Kingdom rulers were buried in rock-cut tombs, and the Temple of Hatshepsut, set in terraces below the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. When the sightseeing is done, we drive you back to your hotel in Marsa Alam.
