What Your Egypt Trip Really Costs

By Delta Tours EgyptLast updated 6 min read

How much does an Egypt tour cost? With us, a private Egypt tour package of 4 to 10 days costs from $580 to $3,965 per person, sharing a double room from October to April, for the land arrangements only, with international flights excluded. A typical first trip of 8 to 10 days at the classic level, including a Nile cruise, costs $1,240 to $1,720 per person on that same basis.

Every price on this page is taken from the published price lists of our packages, Nile cruises and day tours, and each one carries its basis: per person, the room or cabin type, and the season. Use the tables to set a realistic budget, then open the level and length pages to compare actual trips.

Egypt Tour Cost by Level

Each package is filed as budget, classic or luxury. This table gives the lowest and highest price in each group.

Level Price per person Price basis Length Packages
Budget $753 to $1,475 Double room, Oct to Apr 4 to 10 days 8
Classic $580 to $1,720 Double room, Oct to Apr 4 to 10 days 9
Luxury, seasonal rates $1,805 to $3,965 Double room, Oct to Apr 6 to 10 days 5
Luxury, priced by group size $2,025 to $2,375 2 to 4 travelers, no season stated 5 to 8 days 4
Luxury, 14 days From $7,597 Sharing a double room, no season stated 14 days 1

The labels overlap more than you might expect. Our cheapest classic package, a four-day Cairo program at $580, costs less than the cheapest budget one, four days in Cairo and Alexandria at $753. The four budget packages with a Nile cruise cost $1,250 to $1,410, the same band as several classic cruise tours. Level mostly decides where you sleep and how you reach the south, while length and route decide most of the bill.

Egypt Trip Cost by Length

Length Double room, Oct to Apr, per person Luxury priced by group, 2 to 4 travelers, per person
4 to 6 days $580 to $1,805 $2,025 to $2,357
7 to 8 days $1,044 to $2,850 $2,310 to $2,375
9 to 11 days $1,250 to $3,965 None at this length
14 days From $7,597 sharing a double, no season stated None at this length

Most trips of four to six days cover Cairo with Luxor or Alexandria. From seven days a three-night cruise between Aswan and Luxor fits, and at nine to eleven days most packages add a second region, such as Abu Simbel, Alexandria or the Red Sea. Compare the routes on our 7 day Egypt tours, 10 day Egypt tours and 14 day Egypt tours pages.

Nile Cruise Prices: 3 Nights vs 4 Nights

All fares below are per person in a double cabin. Most ships list them for September to April, a few for September to May or October to April.

Ship class 3 nights, double cabin 4 nights, double cabin Ships priced
Deluxe $860 to $1,013 $1,012 to $1,313 4
Five-star $860 to $1,760 $1,012 to $2,011 6
Ultra deluxe $990 to $1,476 $1,177 to $1,786 10
Luxury $1,442 to $3,000 $1,717 to $3,800 10 for 3 nights, 11 for 4 nights

The fourth night adds between $152 and $800 per person in a double cabin, and $180 to $308 on the middle half of the ships. What a cruise-only fare covers varies by ship: on the MS Le Fayan, for example, it includes transfers, full board, guided sightseeing in Luxor and Aswan and the entrance fees for the ship’s program. Cruise-only fares start and end on the river, so budget separately for getting there from Cairo. For a slower sailing, our five-night dahabiyas from Esna are listed at $3,500 per person in a double cabin. See every ship on our Nile river cruises page or read about dahabiya cruises.

Day Tour and Excursion Prices

Our private day tours are priced per person, and the rate falls as your party grows.

Excursion City 1 traveler 2 travelers, each 3 travelers, each
Pyramids day tour Cairo $110 $65 $50
Grand Egyptian Museum and pyramids Cairo $170 $120 $95
Old Cairo and the Citadel Cairo $180 $120 $100
West Bank Luxor $150 $110 $90
East and West Banks Luxor $210 $150 $130
Abu Simbel by air Aswan $550 $380 $360

Some excursions carry one flat price per person whatever the party size, such as the Luxor hot air balloon at $120, Abu Simbel by car at $120 and the Nubian village trip by boat at $50. The published inclusions of these day tours list private transport, the guide, service charges and taxes, but not entrance tickets, so confirm tickets when you book. All of them are on our Egypt day tours page.

What the Price Includes and What Costs Extra

Our package tour pages list these inclusions, with details that vary by tour:

  • Meet and assist on arrival, and private air-conditioned transfers.
  • On most packages that go south, travel between Cairo and Luxor or Aswan, by sleeper train or by domestic flights depending on the tour.
  • Hotel nights with breakfast, and full board on cruise nights.
  • Private sightseeing with an English-speaking guide. On luxury tours such as Hathor, the guide is an Egyptologist.
  • Entrance fees to the sites in the itinerary, the meals it lists, and service charges and taxes.

Not included: international flights, the Egypt visa, optional tours, extras outside the program, and tips. For the visa on arrival at Cairo, GOV.UK lists $30 in cash for the stamp visa, or $36 by card for the single-entry e-visa on arrival, each for 30 days. Fees change, so check before you fly.

What Changes the Price

  • Season. On the 22 packages with two seasonal price lists, the May to September double rate is lower than the October to April one by a median of $114 per person, about 9%.
  • Room type. Three people sharing a triple room each pay a median of $110 less than the per-person double rate, October to April. Our rate for one person traveling alone is a median of 53% above the per-person double rate, which works out at $280 to $1,610 more.
  • Train or flights. The 8-day Queen Nefertari tour uses sleeper trains both ways, with two Cairo nights at the Hilton Pyramids and three nights on a five-star ship, for $1,240. The 8-day Hathor tour flies round trip, with four nights at Marriott Mena House and three on the MS Mayflower, for $2,850. Both are per person, double room, October to April, and the gap pays for the flights and the hotel together.
  • Hotel and ship class. The cruise table shows the spread: the dearest 4-night luxury cabin costs nearly four times the cheapest deluxe one.
  • Group size. On the four luxury tours priced by group, a larger party pays less each. Ancient Egypt Revealed, 8 days, costs $3,875 for a solo traveler, $2,375 per person for 2 to 4, $1,995 for 5 to 8 and $1,905 for 9 to 16.

High Season vs Low Season

October to April is our high season, and package rates are set higher for it. May to September is cheaper because of the heat: Weather Spark puts Luxor’s hot season from 6 May to 1 October, with average daily highs above 98°F. If cooler sightseeing days matter more than the saving, read our guide to the best season to visit Egypt before you choose dates.

Ways to Save Without Making the Trip Worse

  • Share a triple room if you travel as three, rather than booking a double and a single.
  • Take the sleeper train on a classic tour. You keep the private guide and the cruise, and the train travels overnight, so it doubles as a night’s accommodation.
  • Choose 3 cruise nights instead of 4 if your dates are tight. You still sail between Luxor and Aswan.
  • Travel in summer and start sightseeing early, if you handle heat well.
  • Book day tours as a party of two or three, since per-person rates fall with each extra traveler.

We would not cut the private guide or the entrance fees, as they are what make the sightseeing days work.

Sample Budget: Two People, 8 Days, Classic Level

This budget uses the Queen Nefertari tour, 8 days in Cairo, Aswan and Luxor with a 3-night cruise.

Item Basis Cost for two
Queen Nefertari, 8 days $1,240 per person, double room, Oct to Apr $2,480
Egypt visa on arrival $30 per person, stamp visa, cash $60
Luxor hot air balloon, optional $120 per person $240
Total before flights and tips Per couple $2,780

On May to September rates the tour costs $1,190 per person sharing a double, or $2,380 for the two of you. A solo traveler pays $1,960 from October to April. Add your international flights, tips, drinks and shopping on top.

How much does a luxury Egypt tour cost?

Luxury tours with seasonal rates cost $1,805 to $3,965 per person in a double room, October to April. Luxury tours priced by group size cost $2,025 to $2,375 per person when 2 to 4 people travel together, and less for larger parties.

What are Nile cruise prices for 3 or 4 nights?

Yes, a little. Our May to September package rates are a median of about 9% below the October to April ones, in exchange for much hotter days in Luxor.

Flights from home are never part of our prices. Most packages that cover Luxor or Aswan include the journey south from Cairo, either on the overnight sleeper train or on domestic flights, and each tour page says which.

How much more does a solo traveler pay?

On our seasonally priced packages, one person traveling alone pays a median of 53% more than the per-person double rate. On the 6-day Anubis tour, for example, that means $1,217 instead of $860 from October to April.

How much should two people budget for 8 days in Egypt?

On our classic 8-day Queen Nefertari tour, two people sharing a double from October to April spend $2,780 on the tour, cash visas and one optional balloon ride. International flights and tips come on top.

Are tips included in Egypt tour prices?

No. Our tour pages list tips as not included, so set aside cash for your guide, driver and ship crew.
