A private Egypt tour means the trip runs for your party alone. Your own Egyptologist guide meets you at each site, your own driver waits with an air-conditioned vehicle, and the day moves at your pace rather than a coach timetable. Every tour on this page is privately guided, from a single day at the Pyramids to an eleven-day journey through Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, and at every budget, not only at the luxury end.
Below we explain what private really means in Egypt, how it compares with small-group and group tours, what is included, what private Egypt tour packages cost for different party sizes, and how we plan your trip.
Two parts of a trip are shared by nature: a Nile cruise ship carries other guests, and the sites themselves are open to everyone. On our Nile cruise packages the guiding at each temple is still private, and if you want the whole boat to yourselves, a dahabiya can be chartered for your group.
| Private tour | Small-group tour | Coach group tour | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who travels | Your party only | Usually up to about 16 strangers | Often 20 to 40 people |
| Start date | Any day you choose | Fixed departures | Fixed departures |
| Pace | Set by you | Set by the group | Set by the coach schedule |
| Guide | Your own Egyptologist | Shared tour leader | Shared guide, often with a microphone |
| Changes on the day | Easy | Limited | Rarely possible |
| Price per person | Highest for solo travelers, close to group prices for families | Middle | Lowest |
| Best for | Couples, families, first visits, special interests | Solo travelers who want company | Tight budgets |
Group tours suit some travelers well, particularly solo travelers on a budget who enjoy company. A private tour makes most sense when you are two or more, when you have children or older relatives with you, or when you care about how long you spend at each site.
The exact inclusions are listed on each tour page. On our multi-day private tours they usually cover:
Private tours are priced per person, and the price per person falls as more travelers share the guide and the vehicle. Our published fares show how this works:
| Tour | Solo traveler | Two or more sharing | Larger party |
|---|---|---|---|
| Egypt Unveiled, 5 days | $3,845 | $2,357 each for 2 to 4 | $1,985 each for 5 to 8 |
| King Tut, 9 days | $2,240 | $1,460 each, double room | $1,350 each, triple room |
| Anubis, 6 days | $1,217 | $860 each, double room | $790 each, triple room |
Egypt Unveiled is priced by the size of your group; the other two packages by room type, with the October to April rates shown. Beyond group size, the price depends on the hotel or ship category, the season, and whether you fly or take the sleeper train between Cairo and Upper Egypt. For families and small groups, the extra cost of travelling privately is spread across everyone and is often smaller than people expect.

In Egypt, professional tour guides must hold a licence from the Ministry of Tourism and belong to the guides’ syndicate. The guides we work with are Egyptologists who studied the country’s history and archaeology. In each city you are guided by a local specialist who knows the sites well, and because the tour is private, they can shape the stories around your interests and your pace.
A few practical points help you get the most from your guide. In the Valley of the Kings, guides explain each tomb outside the entrance rather than inside, and some tombs, including Tutankhamun’s, need an extra ticket. At the Grand Egyptian Museum, a private guide lets you plan the visit around the galleries you most want to see. If you would like a guide who speaks another language, ask when you book.
A private guide makes it easy to go beyond the headline monuments. Popular additions include Coptic and Islamic Cairo with the Citadel, the step pyramid and tombs of Saqqara, a felucca sail on the Nile, a Nubian village visit from Aswan, and the temples of Dendera and Abydos on a day trip from Luxor. Tell us what interests you and we will build the days around it.

Some travelers prefer to explore on their own and only need transport. We can arrange a private car and driver without a guide for airport transfers, hotel moves or free days. At the major archaeological sites, though, a licensed Egyptologist adds a great deal, and is the only way to have the history explained on site.

International flights, visas, extras and tips are not included.
It depends on the length, hotel category and group size. Our published fares range from a few hundred dollars for a short break to several thousand for a long luxury journey. For example, the 9-day King Tut tour is $1,460 per person in a double room from October to April, and the 5-day Egypt Unveiled is $2,357 per person for two to four travelers.
Yes, the price per person falls as more people share the guide and vehicle. On Egypt Unveiled, for example, five to eight travelers pay $1,985 each, compared with $2,357 each for two to four.
A private guide is best if you are two or more, travel with children or older relatives, or want to set your own pace. A group tour can suit solo travelers on a budget who enjoy company.
A private tour is for your party only, starts on any date and follows your pace. A small-group tour has fixed departures, a shared tour leader and usually up to about sixteen travelers.
Yes. Professional guides in Egypt must be licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, and the guides we work with are Egyptologists with a background in the country’s history and archaeology.
Yes. We can arrange a private car and driver for transfers or free days. At the major sites we recommend a licensed guide, who can explain the history on site.
Within reason, yes. Because the guide and vehicle are yours, timings and the order of visits can often be adjusted on the day. Changes that affect flights, trains or hotels depend on availability.
The cruise ship is shared with other guests, but your sightseeing at each temple is private with your own Egyptologist. For a fully private boat, consider chartering a dahabiya.
Seven to ten days covers Cairo, Luxor and Aswan comfortably. Four to six days works for Cairo and Luxor, and longer trips can add Abu Simbel, Alexandria or the Red Sea.
Yes. Solo travelers pay a higher price per person because the guide and vehicle are not shared, and multi-day packages include a single room supplement. The solo price is shown on each tour page.
Tipping is customary in Egypt and is not included in the price. Amounts are at your discretion; ask us for current guidance when you book so you can plan for it.
Our standard tours are guided in English. Guides in other languages may be available on request, so ask when you book.
For October to April, book two to four months ahead, and earlier for Christmas, New Year and Easter. Short private day tours can often be arranged at shorter notice.
