What makes the East Bank worth a morning

The two temples were linked in antiquity by a processional avenue lined with sphinxes, and seeing them together makes their relationship clear. Karnak is a sprawling complex added to over many centuries, so a guide is valuable for making sense of its courts, pylons and the famous hypostyle hall. Luxor Temple is more compact and sits right in the city center, close to most hotels and cruise moorings. Both sites are flat and easy to walk compared with the West Bank, which makes this a good choice for families or anyone who prefers a gentler day.

This tour does not cross the river. To see the royal tombs, add the West Bank of the Nile tour on another day, or choose the Luxor East and West Banks day to cover both in one go.
