A Dendera and Abydos day tour from Luxor takes you north to two of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, the Temple of Seti I at Abydos and the Temple of Hathor at Dendera. The private trip costs $100 per person for three travelers, $120 per person for two and $200 for one, with a private Egyptologist and air-conditioned transport.

Why Make the Drive

Luxor’s own temples are vast but weathered. Abydos and Dendera reward you with detail: fine carved reliefs at Seti I’s temple and painted ceilings at Dendera whose colors are still clear. They see far fewer visitors than Karnak, so you often have halls almost to yourself. Dendera also has a rooftop chapel area and crypts that add variety to the visit.

Good fit: second-time visitors, keen photographers, and anyone interested in temple art and religion.
Think twice: if you have only one or two days in Luxor, the East and West Banks tour should come first.
Expect: a long road day, with Abydos the farther of the two sites and Dendera visited on the way back.
