Tour Overview
This is a five-day hiking trip in the high mountains of South Sinai, based around the town of Saint Catherine. With an English-speaking Bedouin guide you trek through Wadi Zawatine, climb Mount Serbal and reach the summit of Mount Saint Catherine, the highest peak in Egypt. The trip also includes St. Catherine’s Monastery and a sunset climb of Mount Sinai. It departs every day, for a minimum of two people, from $1,075 per person.
How the days work
You fly into Sharm El Sheikh, where our representative meets you at the airport and drives you to Saint Catherine. The first afternoon includes a visit to St. Catherine’s Monastery. Day two is a trek through Wadi Zawatine, one of the valleys in the mountains around the town. On day three you hike up Mount Serbal, a separate massif to the west with its own jagged ridge line.
Day four is the main goal: the climb to the top of Mount Saint Catherine. On day five you return to the monastery and finish with a climb of Mount Sinai for the sunset. Nights are spent in desert camps on full board, and 4×4 transport covers the desert driving.
Who this trip suits
This is a walking holiday, not a sightseeing tour with short strolls. It suits people who hike at home, are used to several days on foot in a row and are comfortable on steep, rocky trails. Camp life is simple, so it works best for travelers who enjoy the outdoors more than hotel comforts. If you want to see the monastery without the hiking, the St. Catherine shore excursion from Sharm El Sheikh does it in a day.

Tour Itinerary
Our representative meets you at Sharm El Sheikh airport and drives you inland to Saint Catherine. The road climbs from the coast into the granite mountains of South Sinai.
On arrival you visit St. Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai, then settle into camp. Meals start with lunch on this first day, and you meet the Bedouin guide who leads the hikes.
The first full hiking day follows Wadi Zawatine, a valley in the mountains around Saint Catherine. It is a good chance to get used to the terrain and find a steady pace before the bigger climbs.
Your Bedouin guide sets the route and the breaks during the day. In the evening you return to camp for dinner and a night in the desert on full board.
Today you take on Mount Serbal, a separate mountain west of Saint Catherine known for its jagged granite ridge.
The ascent is steep and rocky in places, so good boots and poles help, and your guide sets a pace that suits the group. After the hike you return to camp for the evening meal and another night under the desert sky, with full board as on every day of the trek.
This is the main day of the trip: the climb to the top of Mount Saint Catherine, the highest mountain in Egypt. The path leads up through rocky slopes to the summit, where you look out over the peaks of South Sinai.
Bring warm layers for the top, since summits are colder than the valleys. You come back down to camp for dinner and your last night in the mountains.
On the final day you return to St. Catherine’s Monastery, then climb Mount Sinai in the afternoon to watch the sun go down from the top. Camel rides on the mountain are available but not included.
Lunch on this day is the last included meal, and it marks the end of the program. Details of your onward transfer are confirmed when you book, so tell us your flight or travel plans in advance.
