Hurghada to Cairo Day Trip by Bus: Pyramids, Museums & Bazaar
- 4.9 on Tripadvisor · 88 reviews
- Licence No. 121
Tour Overview
Ancient Egypt, medieval Cairo and a lively market all fit into this single day out from the Red Sea. You travel by first-class bus between Hurghada and Cairo, then explore with a private Egyptologist guide.
The Giza Plateau holds the tombs of three Old Kingdom kings: Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. Beside them sits the Great Sphinx, a lion with a human head carved from bedrock and usually linked to Khafre. After Giza come two museums. The Grand Egyptian Museum shows the Tutankhamun collection, while the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square holds statues, papyri and burial goods.
The afternoon moves forward several thousand years. Al-Muizz Street is the main artery of the walled Fatimid city, lined with mosques and old houses. It leads to Khan El-Khalili, a bazaar trading since the 14th century and a good place for spices, lamps and silver. Seeing all of this on one day gives a clear sense of how long Cairo has been a center of power and trade.
This trip suits travelers who want the main sights of Cairo without arranging transport themselves, and anyone with only one free day in their beach holiday.
Practical notes
Pickup is from hotels across the Hurghada area, with a transfer to the bus station. The road is long, so the day starts early and ends in the evening. Pack water, sunscreen, a hat and a light layer for the air-conditioned bus. Bring your passport or a copy for road checkpoints, and dress modestly for the old city.
