Tour Overview

For travelers who want real time on the river, this eight-day cruise is the most complete of our Nile programs from Hurghada. It sails from Luxor to Aswan and back, adds the temples of Abu Simbel, and includes stops at Edfu and Kom Ombo before you return to the coast.

The extra days change the experience. Rather than rushing between monuments, you get a full day of sailing past Esna and space to watch village life on the banks. The sites themselves span about 3,000 years. Luxor holds Karnak, Luxor Temple and the royal tombs of New Kingdom Thebes. Aswan adds the High Dam and Philae, and Abu Simbel preserves the colossal statues of Ramesses II. Edfu and Kom Ombo show how temple building continued under the Greek Ptolemies.

Is this cruise right for you?

It suits history lovers, retirees, and anyone who would rather travel slowly than squeeze Egypt into a weekend. It also fits guests combining a beach stay with a cultural week, since it starts and ends in Hurghada. If you have any health conditions or mobility limits, mention them when booking so we can plan the temple visits around them.

We transfer you from your hotel in the Hurghada area to Luxor, and back again at the end. All seven nights are spent on a 5-star cruise ship, and an Egyptologist guide leads each excursion. Pack for warm days and cooler nights on the river, and keep your passport at hand for travel to Abu Simbel.

Delta Tours Egypt is licensed by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism (licence No. 121). This cruise starts from $1390 per person; the rate depends on the season and the number of travelers.

Children pay according to the Delta Tours child policy shown below: ages 6 to 11 pay 50% of the adult price for the same group size and season.

Tour Itinerary

We collect you from your hotel in the Hurghada area for the drive to Luxor. The first visit, on the east bank, is Karnak Temple, the vast precinct of Amun with its Hypostyle Hall and Avenue of Sphinxes.

You then check in to your 5-star cruise ship for lunch and a rest. In the evening, your guide takes you to Luxor Temple, begun under Amenhotep III and enlarged by Ramesses II, to see it lit after dark.

Dinner and the night are on board.

Today is spent on the river. The ship sails south past Esna and on to Edfu, where it moors for the night.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on board, leaving time to relax on deck and watch the countryside go by.

After breakfast, your Egyptologist guide takes you to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, built between 237 and 57 BC. It is the best-preserved Greco-Roman temple in Egypt, and its walls show Horus defeating Seth.

Back on board, the ship sails on to Aswan, arriving late at night. All meals are included.

After breakfast, you tour Aswan with your guide. The first stop is the High Dam, opened in the 1960s, followed by the Unfinished Obelisk, which would have stood almost 42 meters tall had it been finished.

The visit ends at Philae Temple, dedicated to Isis, on its island in the Nile. You spend the night on board, with all meals included.

The day starts early with a packed breakfast. Your guide accompanies you to Abu Simbel for a private visit to the temples of Ramesses II and Queen Nefertari.

The larger temple is aligned so that the sun lights its inner sanctuary on 22 February and 22 October each year. After you return to the ship and have lunch, the cruise starts sailing north. Dinner and the night are on board.

After breakfast, you visit Kom Ombo Temple, a Ptolemaic double temple for Sobek and Haroeris. Its reliefs include scenes often read as medical instruments and astronomical records.

You then return to the ship, which sails north toward Luxor. All meals are served on board.

Back in Luxor, your guide takes you to the west bank. You visit the Valley of the Kings, where 63 tombs have been found, including those of Seti I and Tutankhamun.

Next is the Temple of Hatshepsut, laid out on three terraces joined by ramps. The tour ends at the Colossi of Memnon, the twin quartzite statues of Amenhotep III.

You return to the cruise for the rest of the day, with all meals included.

After breakfast, you check out of the cruise ship.

A modern air-conditioned vehicle then drives you back to your hotel in Hurghada.
