2-Day Cairo and Alexandria Tour from Hurghada
- 4.9 on Tripadvisor · 88 reviews
- Licence No. 121
Tour Overview
Pharaonic Egypt and Greco-Roman Egypt meet on this route. In two days, the private tour links the Red Sea, the pyramids of Giza and the Mediterranean shore at Alexandria. Domestic flights between Hurghada and Cairo save the long drive in each direction.
Cairo is the country’s capital and its largest city. On its western edge, Giza holds the pyramids of the Old Kingdom, built about 4,500 years ago, and the new Grand Egyptian Museum. The older Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square completes the first day. Alexandria tells a later story. Alexander the Great founded it in 331 BC, and it became the capital of the Ptolemaic kings. You see its Roman-era catacombs, Pompey’s Pillar, the Qaitbay Citadel on the site of the ancient Lighthouse, and the modern Library of Alexandria.
Who should book
This trip suits travelers who have seen the pyramids in photos and also want to see Egypt’s northern coast. It is a good choice for repeat visitors, and for anyone interested in the Greek and Roman chapters of Egyptian history. A private guide and vehicle are reserved for your group. Covering three cities in two days makes for full days, so plan accordingly.
Practical details
You are picked up from your hotel in the Hurghada area and dropped back there at the end of the trip. The night is spent at a 5-star hotel in Cairo, and lunch is included on both days. Alexandria is often cooler and breezier than the Red Sea, so a light layer is handy in winter. Tell us about any health conditions when booking.

Tour Itinerary
Our representative collects you from your hotel in the Hurghada area for the morning flight to Cairo. Your Egyptologist guide meets you at Cairo airport.
The first stop is the Giza plateau. You visit the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre, where the king’s body was prepared for burial. You then continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which houses the complete Tutankhamun collection.
Lunch is at a restaurant overlooking the pyramids or the Nile. In the afternoon you tour the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square, before checking in to a 5-star hotel in Cairo for the night.
After breakfast and check-out, you set off with your guide for Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast. The first visit is the Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa, a multi-level Roman-period burial complex that mixes Egyptian and Greco-Roman designs.
Next is Pompey’s Pillar, a granite column raised for Emperor Diocletian around AD 300. You then head to the seafront Qaitbay Citadel, a 15th-century fort built where the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood.
After a seafood lunch, the tour ends at the Library of Alexandria, opened in 2002 in memory of the ancient library. You are then driven to Cairo airport for the flight to Hurghada, and a car takes you back to your hotel.
