Tour Overview

Ramesses II ordered two temples cut into a sandstone cliff near Egypt’s southern border more than 3,000 years ago. Those temples at Abu Simbel are the far point of this private two-day tour from Hurghada. On the way, you stop in Luxor, the city that grew over ancient Thebes.

The larger temple at Abu Simbel has four seated statues of Ramesses II at its entrance. The smaller one honors his queen, Nefertari, and the goddess Hathor. In the 1960s, both were cut into blocks and moved to higher ground. This rescue, led by UNESCO, saved them from the waters of Lake Nasser after the Aswan High Dam was built.

Luxor adds a second layer to the trip. As Thebes, it was a royal and religious center for centuries. Here you see the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon and Karnak Temple.

Is this tour right for you?

This program suits travelers who have already seen the Red Sea and want to go deep into the south. It fits history fans and photographers who are willing to cover long distances for rare monuments. Abu Simbel sits far south of Hurghada, so travel takes up a large part of both days.

The tour is private, with pickup from hotels in the Hurghada area. You drive to Luxor, take a first-class train to Aswan for a night at a 5-star hotel, and return by train to Qena before the drive back to Hurghada. Two lunches and site entrance fees are included. Let us know about any health conditions or mobility limits before you travel.

Delta Tours Egypt is licensed by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism (licence No. 121). Prices start from $525 per person and vary with season and group size.

Children pay according to the Delta Tours child policy shown below: ages 6 to 11 pay 50% of the adult price for the same group size and season.

Tour Itinerary

A private air-conditioned car collects you from your Hurghada hotel in the morning and drives you to Luxor, where your private Egyptologist guide meets you.

On the West Bank you visit the Valley of the Kings, burial ground of New Kingdom rulers such as Ramses II, Seti I and Tutankhamun. Next comes the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut, then a stop at the Colossi of Memnon, the twin statues of Amenhotep III.

Lunch is served at a Nile-view restaurant before you head to Karnak Temple, the vast complex built for Amun, Mut and Khonsu. An avenue of sphinxes links it to Luxor Temple.

Afterward you are driven to Luxor station for a first-class train to Aswan. A representative meets you on arrival and takes you to your 5-star hotel for the night.

You set off early with a breakfast box and your guide for the trip south to Abu Simbel.

Ramses II had two temples cut into the sandstone cliff here. The Great Temple honors the king himself, and the smaller one is dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor. Both were moved to higher ground in the 1960s to escape the waters of Lake Nasser.

Back in Aswan, lunch is served at a local restaurant. You then take the train north to Qena, where a private car meets you for the drive to your hotel in Hurghada.
