Tour Overview
Not every port day needs a long drive. This private shore excursion keeps you in Alexandria, the city founded by Alexander the Great. You spend the day on three of its best-known sites with an Egyptologist, and your guide gets you back to the ship on time.
The tour goes below ground first, into the Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa. These Roman-era tombs mix Egyptian, Greek and Roman styles in their carvings. You then head to the harbor and the Qaitbay Citadel. This 15th-century Mamluk fort stands where the ancient Pharos lighthouse once rose. The last stop is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern library and cultural center that recalls the city’s famous ancient library.
Lunch at a local restaurant breaks up the day. Transport is a private air-conditioned vehicle, so you travel only with your own group.
The excursion suits cruise passengers who prefer a calmer pace, or who have already seen the Pyramids. It runs every day. Pickup and drop-off are at Alexandria Port. Your guide, entrance fees, lunch, bottled water and all taxes are included. Tips are not. Wear comfortable shoes, as the catacombs have steep stairs and the citadel involves some walking on uneven stone. A hat and sunscreen help on the open harbor walls. Keep your passport or cruise card with you for the port exit and return. Photography rules can differ inside each site, and your guide will tell you where cameras are allowed.
Prices start from $198 per person. The rate per person drops as your group grows, from two up to six travelers.

Tour Itinerary
Your Egyptologist meets you at Alexandria Port and you set off in a private air-conditioned vehicle.
You start at the Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa. A spiral staircase leads down to burial chambers cut into the rock, decorated in a blend of Egyptian and Greco-Roman art.
Next you visit the Qaitbay Citadel at the entrance of the Eastern Harbor. Sultan Qaitbay built the fort in the 15th century, partly with stone from the fallen Pharos lighthouse. After lunch at a local restaurant, you tour the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a striking modern library on the seafront.
Your guide then drives you back to the port in time for your ship.
