2-Day Aswan and Abu Simbel Tour from Hurghada

Tour Overview
Aswan marks the point where the Nile enters Egypt from the south. Granite islands break up the river here, and Nubian villages line its banks. This two-day program from Hurghada pairs Aswan’s main sights with the temples of Abu Simbel, with a night at a 5-star hotel in between.
Aswan has been a frontier town since ancient times. Its quarries supplied red granite for obelisks and statues across Egypt, and the Unfinished Obelisk still lies where the stonecutters left it. The city is also known for the High Dam, completed in 1970, which formed Lake Nasser, and for Philae, the island temple of Isis.
Abu Simbel lies on the shore of that lake. Ramesses II had two temples carved into the rock there in the 13th century BC. When the dam threatened to flood them, an international team moved both temples to higher ground between 1964 and 1968.
Who the trip is for
The trip is aimed at travelers who want to reach Egypt’s far south during a Red Sea stay. It appeals to those curious about Nubian culture as well as pharaonic history. Much of the two days is spent traveling: by road to Luxor, then by train to Aswan and back. A private Egyptologist guide leads the sightseeing.
Good to know
We collect you from your hotel in the Hurghada area and return you there at the end. Day two starts very early, with a packed breakfast, because Abu Simbel lies far to the south of Aswan. Southern Egypt is often hot, so pack sun protection. Please let us know about any health conditions beforehand.

Tour Itinerary
A private air-conditioned car picks you up from your hotel in the Hurghada area and drives you to Luxor. There you board a first-class train south to Aswan, where your Egyptologist guide meets you.
Sightseeing starts at the Aswan High Dam, built in the 1960s to control the Nile flood and produce electricity. You then visit the Unfinished Obelisk in the ancient granite quarries, a huge shaft abandoned after it cracked during carving. The last visit is Philae Temple, dedicated to Isis, which was moved stone by stone to Agilkia Island during the UNESCO Nubia campaign.
Lunch is at a local restaurant, and you then check in to a 5-star hotel in Aswan for the night.
The day starts before dawn with a packed breakfast. After check-out, your guide accompanies you to Abu Simbel.
The site has two rock-cut temples. The larger one, built for Ramesses II, is fronted by four seated statues of the king and is aligned so that sunlight reaches the inner sanctuary around 22 February and 22 October. The smaller temple honors Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor.
Back in Aswan, you have lunch before catching the train north to Luxor. From Luxor, an air-conditioned vehicle drives you back to your hotel in Hurghada.
