Birqash Camel Market Half-Day Trip from Cairo
- 4.9 on Tripadvisor · 88 reviews

Tour Overview
Away from the monuments, Birqash shows a working side of Egypt. The village lies north of Cairo and hosts the country’s largest camel market. On this half-day trip you watch traders buy and sell animals at auction and strike deals the old way.
You walk through the market grounds at your own pace with an English-speaking representative. Herds are brought in from across Egypt and from Sudan. Buyers inspect the animals, sellers argue the price, and handshakes close each sale. The scene is loud and busy, and it gives plenty to photograph.
Trips run on Fridays and Sundays. A driver collects you from your hotel in Cairo or Giza in a private air-conditioned vehicle. After your visit you are driven straight back. Market entry and the camera ticket are both covered, so you can take photos freely.
Before you go
This is a real livestock market, not a show. The ground is dusty and uneven, so wear closed shoes and clothes you do not mind getting dirty. Keep a respectful distance from the animals and the handlers, and ask before photographing people up close. Bring small cash in Egyptian pounds if you want tea or a snack from local vendors. Note that the trip is a market visit and does not include a camel ride. If you have allergies or breathing issues, mention them when booking, since the market is dusty.
It suits curious travelers, photographers and repeat visitors who have already seen the main sights. Prices start from $120 per person. The rate per person drops as your group grows, from one traveler up to six.
