Tour Overview
Two days is enough to trade the Red Sea coast for the two great temple cities of Upper Egypt. This private overnight trip drives from Hurghada to Luxor, takes the train south to Aswan for the night, and brings you back to the coast on day two.
Luxor stands on the site of ancient Thebes, the religious capital of the New Kingdom. On its west bank you see the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. On the east bank you visit the vast Karnak complex. Aswan sits further south, where the Nile narrows between granite rocks and Nubian villages. There you visit the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and Philae Temple.
Who this trip suits
The tour is a good fit for beach guests who want more than a single day in the Nile Valley but cannot spare a week. A private Egyptologist guide leads every visit, so the pace can follow your interests. Families, couples and small groups of friends tend to get the most from this format.
Pickup is from hotels in the Hurghada area. The night is spent at a 5-star hotel in Aswan, and lunch is included on both days. Travel between the cities is by first-class train, with the return leg running to Qena, where a car meets you for the drive to Hurghada. Comfortable clothes, a hat and sunscreen make the long days easier. Please tell us about any mobility needs so we can plan walking time sensibly.

Tour Itinerary
A private air-conditioned vehicle collects you from your hotel in the Hurghada area for the drive to Luxor, where your Egyptologist guide joins you.
You start on the west bank in the Valley of the Kings, the burial ground of New Kingdom pharaohs. Then you visit the terraced mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, followed by a stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two seated statues of Amenhotep III.
After lunch at a Nile-view restaurant, you cross to the east bank for Karnak Temple, the great precinct of Amun that was built and enlarged over some 2,000 years. You are then taken to Luxor station for the first-class train to Aswan, and transferred to a 5-star hotel for the night.
After breakfast, your guide meets you for a tour of Aswan. You start at the High Dam, completed in 1970, then see the Unfinished Obelisk lying in its granite quarry.
The last visit is Philae Temple, the sanctuary of Isis rebuilt on Agilkia Island when the dams raised the river.
Lunch is at a local restaurant. You then take the train north to Qena, where our representative meets you and drives you back to your hotel in Hurghada.
