2-Day Cairo Tour from Hurghada by Bus: Pyramids and Museum
- 4.9 on Tripadvisor · 88 reviews

Tour Overview
Seeing Egypt from the road, rather than from a plane window, is the idea behind this overland program. You ride a first-class bus from Hurghada to Cairo, spend a night in the capital, and cover the main sights of Giza and the old city before the bus brings you back to the Red Sea.
The two days move through several eras. Day one is for the Old Kingdom: the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple at Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum beside the plateau, and the Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara, the oldest of the pyramids. Day two starts at the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square. It then turns to medieval Cairo, with the Saladin Citadel and the Mohamed Ali Mosque, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Al-Muizz Street and the Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
Who will enjoy it
The trip suits travelers on a beach holiday who want to see the capital without a domestic flight. It also suits those who enjoy watching the desert and towns pass by. A private Egyptologist guide stays with your group in Cairo, so you set the pace at each site. Expect long hours on the road, since Cairo is a considerable drive from the coast.
Before you go
Pickup is from your hotel in the Hurghada area, with a transfer to the bus station, and you are returned there at the end of day two. The night is spent at a 5-star hotel in Cairo, with breakfast. The Citadel and Al-Muizz Street include working mosques, so modest clothing covering shoulders and knees is wise. Tell us about any health conditions in advance.

Tour Itinerary
A private car collects you from your hotel in the Hurghada area and drops you at the bus station for the first-class bus to Cairo. Your Egyptologist guide meets you when the bus arrives in the capital.
The first visit is the Giza plateau. You see the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the largest of the three, then the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre, where the king’s funeral rites began. Next comes the Grand Egyptian Museum beside the plateau, home to the complete Tutankhamun collection and a colossal statue of Ramesses II.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you continue to Saqqara for the Step Pyramid of Djoser. Designed by the architect Imhotep, it is the earliest large stone pyramid in Egypt. The day ends at a 5-star hotel in Cairo, where you spend the night.
After breakfast and check-out, your guide takes you to the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square. Its halls hold statues, coffins and everyday objects from across the pharaonic period.
Lunch is at a local restaurant. You then go up to the Saladin Citadel, the hilltop fortress begun in the late 12th century, and enter the Mohamed Ali Mosque inside its walls, known for its alabaster cladding. Next is the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, which traces Egypt’s story from prehistory to the present.
The last stops are Al-Muizz Street, the main avenue of Fatimid Cairo lined with mosques and old houses, and the Khan el-Khalili bazaar beside it. From there you transfer to the bus station for the first-class bus back to Hurghada, and a car takes you to your hotel.
